Yoga with Suzanne
Suzanne's first priority is to help her students explore tools to release tension, grow strong to the core, and become well-aligned in body, mind, and spirit. Rather than 'pretzeling' our body into classical forms (asanas) and risking injury, we approach these poses using balanced and anatomically healthy joint alignment and muscle activation. This way, we can strengthen our own individual weak areas and open tight spots that are often caused by years of one-sided workouts and 'office-and-iphone asana'.
Suzanne incorporates cutting-edge techniques from physiotherapy and movement science to 'unlock' the powers of traditional asana, pranayama and meditation. Her instruction is upbeat and humorous, challenging and reflective, tapping into timeless universal truths as we explore asanas, pranayama, and meditation on the mat.
Suzanne, E-RYT 500, is a European-American yoga instructor, YACEP continuing education provider, and licensed Anusara® Teacher.
She has been fortunate to study classical asana and philosophy as well as cutting-edge anatomy and therapeutics with some of the world’s most skilled teachers. Having studied with Noah Maze, Richard Rosen and others, Suzanne specializes in Iyengar-based alignment yoga (Hatha and Vinyasa).
She earned her Anusara certification with Siri Peterson, Kenny Graham, and has further studied with Abby Tucker, Sianna Sherman, and Katchie Ananda. Since 2012, she has been teaching alignment yoga (both Hatha and Vinyasa Flow) in Stockholm, Munich, and the Bay Area, and runs a yoga-program for students and teachers at the East Bay German International School (Emeryville).
Suzanne’s passion for teaching comes from direct experience: yoga can turn your life around as you reconnect to your innate physical and mental freedom. Her Yoga journey began over a decade ago as a stressed-out, pained young mother and museum professional, in a German Ashtanga studio. Here, she found the gracefulness she was missing from her years of dancing Ballet; yet what intrigued her most was the peace she experienced in the practice.
In California, Suzanne encountered Anusara Yoga, whose alignment-based and heart-centered method helped her overcome chronic pain and reframe her approach to life’s ups and downs.
When Suzanne is not on the mat, she is practicing the yoga of being an art historian and translator, dedicated wife, and mom to two spunky and hella-precious kids.
